South Ossetia

I was watching the news and the BBC did an interview with Georgia’s president, in the interview I noticed the EU flag in the background. This lead me to believe they were a member of the EU but I discovered it is there hope to be a candidate at some point. The questions I have still stand though.

I have checked the EU site and still can’t find a clear answer. If a member country of the EU or even a candidate country is invaded, attacked or involved in a war they did not provoke or initiate does all of the European Union have to participate? Even without Georgia being in the EU what does this crises mean for the European Union, the Caucuses and the world?

If Canada still had a diplomatic service we could probably help with the global effort to defuse this situation.
